In 1903 Joe "Buckskin" Cullinan, an oilpatch veteran and Arnold Schalet, a New York investor, joined forces to develop a new oil company. By the end of 1998 that company, Texaco, was operating in 150 companies with nearly 25,000 employees and annual sales of roughly 832 billion. The first oil company to operate in all 13 states (a feat it achieved in 1928) and an international powerhouse today, Texaco is still known to most motorists as a friendly place to go for gas and automotive service. The big bright Texaco star has greeted the motorists for nearly a century. And just as Texaco service station workers are dedicated to their customers, Texaco has always been responsive to the station manager's needs. In the late '30s a Texas representative would make the rounds visiting Texaco service stations in his area, often behind the wheel of a 1938 studebaker pickup truck. And now one of the most coveted trucks of all time - the 1938 Studebaker Coupe Express K-Model - is decorated with authentic Texaco graphics of the same era. This precision-engineered die-cast replica is a Matchbox Exclusives edition officially authorised by Texaco Inc. It has been produced by - and available only from - Matchbox Collectibles. |
